Welcome to - the online curriculum vitae of Nick Gibbens

With my hard-working nature and infectious enthusiasm, I am truly passionate about PR, the internet, marketing and the brands I work with. From my involvement in highly successful PR and marketing campaigns to my exceptional knowledge of retail and e-commerce, I am committed to achieving high standards, real results and continuously delivering value for money. My strengths lie in my attention to detail, the ability to multi-task in pressured environments and my inherent understanding of how PR, marketing, the internet, e-commerce and the media work.

My enthusiastic nature and intrinsic understanding of what journalists want is born from my journalism background and puts me in a strong position to develop and maintain relationships with any journalist moving forward.

A strong writer at heart, I have developed a wide set of PR skills, knowledge and understanding that I can apply to any PR campaign or activity.

I have contributed to and assisted in the delivery of low cost but highly successful PR campaigns.

I source and cost advertising activities for promotional campaigns.

My love for the web and marketing has allowed me to develop core skills in a variety of areas, including SEO, email marketing, affiliate marketing, social media and PPC.

Working alongside some talented programmers, I have developed key technical skills and have knowledge of HTML, CSS, X-Cart, Adobe Fireworks, Wordpress & Basecamp.

I have an excellent understanding of online retail and e-commerce and have helped to triple online sales at The Shaving Shack in just two years.

Web development & maintenance - I have designed and built The Shaving Shack, The Bluebeards Revenge and Dreadnought websites. The Shaving Shack is based on the X-Cart e-commerce platform, while The Bluebeards Revenge and Dreadnought sites are powered by Wordpress. I keep all company websites up-to-date and I'm constantly researching and developing new ways of improving presentation, user journey and conversions.

E-commerce manager - Ensure the smooth running of The Shaving Shack online shop. I upload new products, manage key content across the site, develop and integrate special offers and promotions to drive sales, use Google Analytics to identify product performance, improve landing pages and ensure the best possible user journey and analyse competitors pricing and USPs.

Media relations - I have built up a strong network of journalist contacts, nationally and regionally, across a variety of publications and have secured international coverage.

PR campaign planning & execution - Plan and execute exciting PR campaigns around the brands I work with, including survey based stories, charity involvement, 'face of' competitions, sports partnerships and talent story placement.

Day to day activities include regular outreach to media to secure product placement, launching new products, writing press releases and managing the media database

Highlights - so far have included securing a full page 3 in the Daily Express for a national modelling competition, signing up the MK Lightning ice hockey team as an "official partner" and Orchid Male Cancer as a charity partner plus product placement in the likes of the Daily Mail, The Sun, GQ, Nuts, Men's Health, Loaded, The People, The Economist, Scotland on Sunday, Pick Me Up, That's Life, Podium, Sorted, MoneyMaker, Square Mile, Meze and Gay Times.

Copywriting - I am a strong writer, be it press releases, feature articles, website copy or marketing collateral copy.

Advertising & media buying - Identify advertising opportunities in key print and online media.

Digital PR - For all three brands, I utilise the web and its communication tools to create quality coverage and brand awareness.

SEO - I have worked intelligently to ensure The Shaving Shack ranks on the first page of Google, Yahoo and Bing for a number of key search terms. This has been achieved via an innovative and low cost link building campaign. I have used online PR, linkbaiting, blogging, social media sites (mainly shaving and men's interest forums), and article, press release and directory submission.

Email marketing - For The Shaving Shack I create weekly sales led consumer emails with a strong call to action. I have achieved, on average, a 45% open rate. For The Bluebeards Revenge and Dreadnought brands, I create stylish B2B monthly emails that are designed to create retailer and buyer interest.

Social media marketing - I build and control all three brands' reputation through the likes of Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Pinterest, Google Plus and Youtube.

PPC - I liaise with a top PPC agency to ensure The Shaving Shack is targeting the right keywords, ensuring high click through rates, low bounce rates, with the overall goal of achieving high conversation rates and low cost per conversions.
